concrete develops concepts.
we develop them in architecture, interior design, urban development and brand development.
concrete unites people.
we work with a team of 46 multidisciplinary creatives as architects, interior designers and visual marketeers to help businesses and institutions.
concrete loves provoking, confusing, philosophizing, scale models, haute cuisine, burgers, and (most of all) shattering dogmas.
concrete provides solutions.
no grand theories or abstract ideas. just things that work.
concrete likes to let the work do the talking.
Hotel Castell Dʼemporda in Girona, Spain, boasts a
signature restaurant including a large terrace with
great views over the surroundings. At the clientsʼ
request, concrete designed roofing for the terrace for
the possibility of creating an enclosed space with full
wind and rain protection. One of the design conditions
was to create a cover in harmony with the historical
listed building. Additionally concrete wanted to maintain
the terrace feel while being seated underneath.
In principle terraces are an outdoor space, with,
if necessary, a parasol for sun or rain protection,
but practically no obstruction between the visitor and
the view. The solution was to create abstract parasols
in which twelve circles in various diameters are placed
randomly on the terrace. Where the circles touch they
melt together, while the open spaces between circles
are filled with glass. The circular shapes enhance the
feeling of being in an outdoor environment, while the
shape of the roofing is like a separate, almost temporary
element that leaves the ancient building untouched.
