concrete develops concepts.
we develop them in architecture, interior design, urban development and brand development.
concrete unites people.
we work with a team of 46 multidisciplinary creatives as architects, interior designers and visual marketeers to help businesses and institutions.
concrete loves provoking, confusing, philosophizing, scale models, haute cuisine, burgers, and (most of all) shattering dogmas.
concrete provides solutions.
no grand theories or abstract ideas. just things that work.
concrete likes to let the work do the talking.
Van Beuningenplein is located at the van Hallstraat
in the West of Amsterdam. The construction of a
two-storey underground parking garage gave cause
for redesigning the entire square. Based on the
initial ideas of the West district council and Dijk&Co
Landscape Architects, concrete was asked to design
the pavilions positioned on the square. concrete
introduced the concept of creating a living room for
the neighbourhood on the square by integrating the
pavilions. The rectangular space is divided into
zones, each adapted to specific functions and age
groups. The rooms either are sunken into the ground
or elevated. Three zones are framed by steel beams,
elevated 4 meters above ground level and connected
to the pavilion. These beam frames create intimacy
and shape the room-type spaces on the square.
Wooden pergola beams at a right angle to the steel
beams support the spatial perception.
