concrete develops concepts.
we develop them in architecture, interior design, urban development and brand development.
concrete unites people.
we work with a team of 46 multidisciplinary creatives as architects, interior designers and visual marketeers to help businesses and institutions.
concrete loves provoking, confusing, philosophizing, scale models, haute cuisine, burgers, and (most of all) shattering dogmas.
concrete provides solutions.
no grand theories or abstract ideas. just things that work.
concrete likes to let the work do the talking.
Willem Baars is an art historian with a reputation in
the art world as a trader, consultant, appraiser,
publicist and guest curator. The starting point for the
design of his gallery was to create an exciting space
in a typical long and narrow Amsterdam building.
By adding two black cubes diagonally, the elongated
space is interrupted. This immediately provides
possibilities for organising programmes while hiding
less significant functions. As a result the remaining
space is empty and serene, and therefore serves as
a perfect background for the artwork. The black
blocks provide a gradual transition from the entrance
into the gallery, and lets visitors slowly become aware
of their surroundings, before they are confronted with
the art. Willem Baars composed an impressive
collection of art books over the years. To give the
gallery a unique Willem Baars signature and exhibit
his expertise and knowledge, a custom-made
bookcase has been integrated in the black cube to
accommodate his ever growing collection.
